Gosh! Kindness Edit #26

At Gosh! we believe kindness is a gift that costs nothing to give but can mean so much to someone at a time when they really need it. If you’d like to get involved, share your acts of kindness on social media with our hashtag #GoshKindness

1. Teenagers turn pocket money into gifts for strangers

Two teenage girls Izzy Withers and Maddie Clark, both 13 from Heathfield, decided to turn their pocket money into the gift of kindness by using it to buy flowers to hand out to members of the public. Accompanying each flower was a piece of card the girls had handwritten positive messages onto, such as ‘You are loved’ and ‘Good things are coming’. After feeling inspired by the talks on Mental Health Awareness Week at their school, the girls spent two hours handing out their thoughtful gifts despite it being a rainy Autumnal day. They hope that this will inspire others to continue spreading the gift of kindness.

2. Community rally together after local shopfront is vandalised

A shop owner was shocked to find the window of her beloved shop, Plant One on Me in Bradford, had been vandalised overnight. Ursula Sutcliffe was left devastated by fears of the cost of replacing the window, having only opened her shop a few months before. News of the vandalism spread around the local community, who then decided to rally together and collectively donate thousands of pounds to help pay for a new window. Ursula was also inundated with kind messages, with homeless people even assuring her they’d help look after her shopfront at night. “The support I’ve been shown has restored my faith in humanity after this terrible and cowardly vandalism” says Ursula. We love hearing stories about members of a community looking after each other.

3. Colleagues show support to co-worker facing cancer diagnosis

A dad who was forced to quit his job after a sudden cancer diagnosis has been overwhelmed by the support of his colleagues. Bill Turner, a field service engineer from Llandudno, Wales who is also a keen gardener, had been in the middle of renovating his garden when he found out the devastating news. Whilst Bill underwent treatment, his fellow colleagues decided to show their support by completing the garden transformation for him to give Bill and his young family a garden to be proud of during this difficult time. This is our favourite example this week, as it shows when life gets tough, the support of those around you is never far away.
